In February 2006 I graduated from the Muscular Therapy Institute. My work also incorporates Myofascial massage and Neuromuscular Therapy. I am also skilled in therapeutic massage, sports massage, as well as deep tissue and chair massage.
I see massage as an art form. It is a discipline just like any other creative outlet. Dancing, art, or playing a musical instrument is about listening to a rhythm, a color, a sound. In massage you are listening to another person through your hands. You listen to what is underneath your hands; you feel for points of restriction and tension. Each new body is a puzzle. Each new client is a story. Through a deep understanding of the human body and information from the client, the puzzle will start to come together. Originally developed in the 1960s by Ben Benjamin, Muscular Therapy approaches each client as an individual and customizes every treatment to best address the client. While rooted in Swedish massage and early sports massage, it is often considered a more clinical form of massage. A key component is assessment: assessing the puzzle of injury-related tension is a fundamental element that makes Muscular Therapy unique. Muscular Therapy draws in many elements and other modalities. The bodywork is based on three fundamental elements: speeds, rhythms, and pressure. I use these elements to address muscular tension in a variety of ways to best bring about positive change without extending or pushing any client past their personal thresholds. |
